Hailing from Oakland, California, The Souls of Mischief formed in 1991 and is composed of emcees A-Plus, Opio, Phesto, and Tajai. Part of the Hip-Hop collective Hieroglyphics and considered by many as part of the native tongues collective due to their appearance of the cover of A Tribe Called Quest’s ‘Midnight Marauders’.
The roots of the group sprouted early when Tajai began rhyming with future band mate A-Plus at age 8, while both were in elementary school. Tajai and Phesto met later in junior high school and after meeting Opio the group informally formed in high school before making their major-label debut on Jive Records with their well-received album ’93 ’til Infinity’, which in January, 1998, was named one of the Top 100 Rap albums by The Source magazine.
The group stayed with Jive for one more album, 1995′s No Man’s Land. That same year the group officially formed the alternative hip-hop collective Hieroglyphics, with emcees Del tha Funkee Homosapien, Casual, Pep Love, Jaybiz, and producer Domino. The group participated as full members in both Hieroglyphics’ studio albums: 1998′s 3rd Eye Vision, and 2003′s Full Circle.
The group has released two albums on the Hiero’s self-owned independent label, Hieroglyphics Imperium Recordings, 1999′s ‘Focus’, and 2000′s ‘Trilogy: Conflict, Climax, Resolution’ before a long hiatus before most recently releasing 2009′s Montezuma’s Revenge.|
There is little doubt that Souls of Mischief are still one of the best loved groups from the golden age of 90′s Hip-Hop and this is a rare opportunity to see them tear up a London stage so make the most of it.
[London] The Doctors Orders: GANGRENE: THE ALCHEMIST & OHNO – Sunday 19th February @ Jazz Cafe

The Doctor’s Orders & The Jazz Cafe presents..

After a first album Gutter Water acclaimed by critics and a huge tour all over the world, ALC & OHNO alias GANGRENE are back with the second episode of their psychedelic trip Vodka & Ayahuasca. They hit the Jazz Cafe stage for this exclusive London show courtesy of The Doctor’s Orders.
THE ALCHEMIST : After rising to prominence in the late 1990s as a close associate of Cypress Hill, Dilated Peoples and Mobb Deep, he went on to produce for many of hip hop’s leading artists in the 2000s, and has been hailed as one of Hip-Hop’s leading producers. Well known to The Doctor’s Orders faithful through his soundclash shows alongside Just Blaze it is a pleasure to welcome him back.
OHNO : The youngest brother of Madlib is an underground hip hop legend who has released several albums through Stones Throw and has produced for manu including De La Soul, MURS and label mate MED. He is one of the few real underground Hip-Hop talents that we have been trying to book since we launched so we are glad to finally have our man,
Vodka & Ayahuasca is a follow-up to their gritty Decon debut Gutter Water. Al & Oh again split their time between helming psychedelic beats and spitting tripped-out rhymes. While Ayahuasca (a natural hallucinogenic brew, containing DMT) may not be a term familiar to the palette of the average rap consumer, Gangrene is about to change all that. Vodka & Ayahuacsa boasts choice collabs from Kool G Rap, Prodigy (of Mobb Deep), dilated ally Evidence, Roc Marciano, who laces the suggestive “Drink Up”, a welcome addition to the kaleidoscopic head-trip.

Los Angeles-based Dilated Peoples are an iconic Hip Hop crew that has managed to perform amazing feats on the thin line between underground and mainstream. Though they made much of their name performing live on the international club and festival circuits, they are also revered for their bona fide Hip Hop classic records like “Worst Comes To Worst” (feat. Guru) and “This Way” (feat. Kanye West and John Legend). They have also made worldwide names for themselves as solo artists with Evidence’s The Weatherman LP, The Layover EP, and recently-released Cats & Dogs; DJ Babu’s Beat Tape Instrumentals and Duck Season series; and Rakaa (Iriscience) dropping 2010′s critically acclaimed Crown of Thorns album and staying in global demand as an event host.
Dilated Peoples has too much fun to stay off of the road or out of the studio for too long. They’re already laying the foundation for their eagerly anticipated Directors of Photography album set to drop in mid 2012, and they continue to tour the world year round as a group and as solo artists flying the family flag.
