LIVE PA’s FROM SOME OF THE UK’s FINEST;
The Boxettes are an all-female vocal group based in London. Their distinctive sound makes fine use of the complementing styles of their voices: Alyusha, Yvette, Neo and Harriet, and current World Female Beatbox Champion Bellatrix- all combining to evocative and powerful effect.The Boxettes have an unconventional a-capella sound with tight beatbox work set against dreamy, sundrenched harmonics- as each of the girls take turns in either narrating over a melody, providing chord work, beatboxing or fx sounds with their mouths. The Boxettes are by now well used to the expressions of disbelief in audience faces- the extended vocal techniques of their five members combining to elicit an enormous sound, as visceral as it is delicate, performed with swagger as well as good nature. Having started with a focus on Jazz interpellation, the band soon evolved and begun incorporating elements of hip-hop, drum and bass, motown and soul.
LDZ also known as LondonZoo are one of the most diverse, prolific and versatile Hiphop outfits to emerge from the UK. Their first release, a dubstep track, was played by the late John Peel on BBC Radio One. Since then Ldz have worked with Chase & Status, Foreign Beggars, Taskforce, Dubbledge, Stig of the dump, Dr Syntax, Alabama3, Congo Natty and many more. Their first official video ‘ Lips 2 da floor’ ft Dubbledge has had over 900,000 views on YouTube and recieved regular plays on mainstream and underground radio shows from BBC Radio 1 to Rinse fm.The energy and vibe they created soon got them a reputation for their musical diversity, from Breaks, HipHop to Dubstep to Broken Beats they were soon hosting rooms at One Nation, Herbal and Sankey’s suppoting acts such as Rahzel, ScratchPerverts, Adam F, Rodney P & Skitz, The Beatnuts and many more. An incredibly vast musical background is what gives LDZ the versatility and ability to smash every genre from hip-hop, drum & bass/jungle, breakbeat, house, dubstep, broken beat and everything else in-between.
The name Grand Central, which means “at the heart of something big”, is the perfect reflection of their intent to “make moves and make history”. Mr. Drastick is the embodiment of the street smart hustler; earning his stripes after selling thousands of self financed music product nationwide, whilst Kinetik is the poster boy for the book smart university student who spent years soaking up knowledge in the lecture halls. Their varying traits do not prove to be an awkward juxtaposition but a key component within their ying and yang approach to everything they do, most importantly, their organic yet immediate chemistry. Industry luminaries such as Semtex, Shortee Blitz and D.J. M.K. have all agreed that the future is bright for Grand Central.
Bass Planet are a UK Bass Music record label, founded from a deeply rooted belief in the life changing power of sound and rhythm. 2011 has seen Bass’s music aired on dubstepfm.co.uk, showcased on the notorious Skindad and Curly midweek session and the station’s New Year’s show. There are several massive releases planned this year under his own Bass Planet label, from aggressive bass & militant beats to heartfelt outpourings of the soul, music forging the future of electronic sound. Current collaborators include, Kofi Ankrah aka SkankMan, Phil Ramocon (singer/songwriter and pianist), and Zed, aka One Blood Productions. This collective is a promising mix of cultures and musical backgrounds, which has come about out of a common love and dedication of creative musical expression.
