One Inch Badge presents:

DAS RACIST
Das Racist is an Art Rap/Freak Folk/World Music duo based in Brooklyn, New York, comprised of Queens-born Himanshu Kumar and San Francisco-born Victor Vazquez. The two met at Bard Art College in Massachusetts, where Victor was Himanshu’s resident advisor in a “Students of Color for Social Justice” themed Freshman year dormitory.
After a couple of years of occasional drunken freestyles with each other, Himanshu and Victor decided to record a couple of raps together.
The first of which was called “We Made It” and immediately became a hit amongst stupid assholes who like rap from the 1990s and really want that shit to keep happening. The second track was called “Fever” and it was fucking terrible – really bad. Then they made some other songs and then they made “Combination Pizza Hut and Taco Bell” which is the one that everyone likes and then they made some other songs.

UGLY DUCKLING
They’re still here. After five albums and more than a decade of touring, Ugly Duckling continues to make music with independence and integrity. While most people in the entertainment business are constantly attempting to reinvent themselves, UD has remained happily naïve when it comes to the latest industry attitudes, fashion trends, and state-of-the-art production techniques preferring instead to develop and stand by their own signature sound. “We’ve seen so many phases come and go that it all seems silly to us now,” says Andy. “Good music and top level live performance are really our only
concerns.”
Young Einstein, Dizzy Dustin and Andy Cooper formed Ugly Duckling way back in 1993 in their hometown of Long Beach, California. Growing up in the 1980s, they were raised on a classic hip hop diet but were especially influenced by the mostly New York-based and production-focused groups of the late 80’s and early 90’s (such as A Tribe Called Quest, The Beatnuts, Diamond D, Gangstarr, etc.)
This show is an absolute must for all fans of hip-hop and good times!

Brighton you don’t know how lucky you are!

One Inch Badge presents:

DAS RACIST
From ‘the combination taco bell and pizza hit’ comes undoubtedly the most vital underground hip-hop act in the USA right now, over in the UK for the very first time to play a handful of intimate shows, it’s time for the UK to catch up…

Voted as one of the most vital acts of 2010 by Pitchfork (who also named their new album as one of the top 25 albums of the year), and with production from El-P (Company Flow / Def Jux) and Diplo (M.I.A) and collaborations with Jay-Z, Das Racist are without a doubt the hottest property in the hip-hop community right now.

Drawing similarity to the hyper-referential raps of The Streets, Beastie Boys and MF Doom as well as the abstract-gone-mainstream wordplay of Dipset and Lil Wayne, Das Racist are an experimental and lyrically dexterous danger.

A crazy hectic year is ahead of them and this is your chance to bare witness to the uber-hip party wagon before they explode on a nucleur scale.

Tonight they welcome back one of the true soldiers of the UK Hip-Hop scene the one and only Klashnekoff for what is sure to be another packed night of real Hip-Hop sounds for real Hip-Hop heads.

Since debuting with ‘Dago Mentality’ and ‘The Sagas of Klashnekoff’ back in 2004 this Hackney born MC has been collecting fans on both the underground Hip-Hop scene and on the mainstream (in the shape of The Arctic Monkeys & Pete Doherty) with style of urban documentary delivered with a unique brand of wit and wordplay that is a devastating as his name would suggest. Classic singles like ‘Murda’ and all three of his full length albums, including 2007’s ‘LionheartL Tussle With The Beast’ and last year’s ‘Back To The Sagas’ have been critically acclaimed and it is obvious why this man is now considered a pioneer paving the way for many Hip-Hop & Grime MCs who have followed.

As ever Klashnekoff will be welcomed by one of the strongest resident line ups in the land as London’s finest Spin Doctor, DJ 279 and Chris P Cuts set the mood with their brilliant party blend of classic and brand new bangers while host MC Prankster the Trini Glasiata keep the vibe bubbling!

One of the true pioneers of the UK scene Klashnekoff is responsible for one of the all times great singles to have come from our homegrown scene in the shape of ‘Murda’. This is just one highlight on his three critically acclaimed albums that have seen him make unlikely fans of The Arctic Monkeys and Pete Doherty not to mention armies of Hip-Hop heads.

His tales of life in the city are delivered with a wit and delivery as devastating as his name would suggest and tonight The Doctor’s Orders give the South Coast’s fans this rare opportunity to see and hear the man perform live.

Setting things off as always with their energetic blend of Hip-Hop, Funk and party platters are residents Spin Doctor & Rusty Ryan so you are sure this is once again set to be THE Hip-Hop event of the month in boogie down Brighton.

For the fifth year running London’s No.1 party promoters are celebrating the life and work of the incredible James “J-Dilla” Yancey but this year take the show on the road with three seperate events in London, Brighton and for the first time Manchester in association with local promoters Juicy.

As ever we have an incredible all-star line up in each city all spinning sets of exclusive J-Dilla related sets for free to raise as much money as possible for The J-Dilla Foundation and Lupus UK. This year we are joined by Mr Scruff, Shortee Blitz, Spin Doctor, Mr Thing, Sarah Love, Harry Love, Morgan Spacek to name just a few.

5 years after his untimely death from complications brought on by Lupus disease J-Dilla’s status and appeal continues to grow so we expect what is widely regarded as “THE” Hip-Hop event of the year to be even more popular than the previous 4 years in London and for the second year running in Brighton where it filled both venues to capacity and we expect nothing less of Manchester. Those lucky few in attendance will not only be treated to an incredible night of music but also presented with the chance to get their hands on t-shirts exclusively printed by Dephect clothing for the event with all proceeds from these and the door going to charity.

JAZZIE B (Soul II Soul / OBE)

£5 in advance (100 tickets only) / £7
http://www.ticketweb.co.uk/user/?region=gb_south&query=detail&event=422859

Last January Jazzie B rocked the spot to its foundations with an unforgettable soul infused set that turned winter instantly to summer in Jam’s basement and the packed crowd drank the bar dry so round two was inevitable!

Making the trip down from North London for this first party of 2011 is the original funki dread, Soul II Soul’s legendary Jazzie B. With an OBE, an Ivor Novello, 2 Grammys, the freedom of 5 US Cities and 6.8 Million album sales across 35 territories the only thing missing from Jazzie’s CV is a knighthood. This is not bad going for a man who started out life in the music industry as a tea boy. The spark behind all this creativity was the Soul II Soul sound system that he established with the aid of his older brothers that went on to create one of the most legendary parties of all time at Covent Garden’s Africa Centre and in tern the distinctive Soul sound of the UK in the 80’s. Never one to rest on his laurels Jazzie B is still as busy as ever with residencies in London, sets at clubs & festivals around the world and for one special January night with The Doctor’s Orders Brighton.

Joining him on his drive down from London is The Doctor’s Orders resident and driving force Spin Doctor. Having become good friends through their love of great music and the same football team they have gone on to work together not only as DJs but also promoters and have had the pleasure of spinning at each other’s birthdays. Guaranteed to be on his A game as Spin always is when joined by his friend and hero Jazzie B this is sure to be a night not to miss.

Warming things up is resident and The Doctor’s Orders man on the ground Brighton’s own Rusty Ryan. With a great eye for the crowd and an ear for the beats that make them move he is fast establishing himself as a name on the Brighton bar and club scene and will be doing his reputation only more good with his sets here at The Doctor’s Orders.

Since launching in November 2009 The Doctor’s Orders Brighton has fast become an integral part of the city’s nightlife as the only real Hip-Hop party for those that want to get down in an attitude free environment. This, the first of what is sure to become a regular, NYE party is sure to help build on that well deserved reputation as they invite an incredible line up of A-list names to help them see in the new year.

Brighton’s own DJ Format had so much fun when he played at The Doctor’s Orders that he has been itching to come back like some flea infested vinyl junkie. He will be bringing the party with his sure fire selection of up-tempo 70’s Funk 45’s & classic Hip-Hop as he plays the midnight set seeing in 2011. His flawless style on the decks has seen him tour the world with the likes of DJ Shadow & Jurassic 5 all of whom are fans of his energetic soulful sounds.

DJ Vadim is one of the best loved names in the music industry. Always one to forge his own path he was at the forefront of the legendary Ninja Tunes label, founded his own Jazz Fudge label and has produced & remixed work for the likes of Prince, The Cure, Erykah Badu, Alice Russell & even Paul Weller not to mention releasing 7 full length production albums. Always one to embrace new sounds he will be dropping a bass heavy mix of Hip-Hop, Soul, Reggae & beyond that will have even the dead grooving in their graves.

Also hitting the stage for this auspicious occasion is another Brighton native, former DMC Champion and founder of Battlejam DJ JFB. While displaying all the technical expertise needed to win the world’s most competitive DJ battle he is also an expert at rocking a party which he will be doing to the best of his phenomenal ability tonight. Expect a mix of floor-fillers that are set to get the crowd to boiling point.

The Doctor’s Orders own Rusty Ryan will be closing the night out with his usual brand of soul drenched sounds. As at ease spinning boom-bap Hip-Hop as he is cutting up original breaks he has been keeping this great club bouncing since it’s launch and will be seeing you through to the early hours with a smile on your face, ants in your pants and love in your heart.

KYZA
http://www.myspace.com/saysoseddso

Ladbroke Grove’s finest unleashes his second album on the masses…his most mature, personal and diverse body of work to date, with productions from the likes of Ghosttown, Chemo, 2Tall, King Knut and Bless Beats. S.O.S (Shots of Smirnoff) has the legendary cold and razor sharp street rhymes he’s famed for, with humorous and introspective lamentations, and demonstrates Kyza’s (lesser known) incredible voice..
First single ‘Love and Music’ was released with massive support from MistaJam [BBC 1Xtra], appearing on Tim Westwood [BBC Radio One], DJ MK and Shortee Blitz [KISS], Ras Kwame [BBC Radio One], DJ 279 [Choice], Sarah Love [1Xtra] and B-List playlisted on BBC 1xtra. Dystopic single ‘Sin City’ [produced by CHEMO] b/w the fiery ‘Go’ [produced by BLESS BEATS, who also made the number one global smash ‘WEARING MY ROLEX’ by WILEY], were released shortly after and have wet the public’s appetite for Kyza’s massive new album. Mixed in it’s entirety by Foreign Beggars’ DJ Nonames – cuts and mixes tie the album together perfectly. ‘Murderman’ opens with more energy and eloquence than most rappers have on their entire album. On the summer vibes of ‘Zonin’ Kyza demonstrates his broad vocal range, showing exactly how accomplished he is as a singer. ‘Dumb’ and ‘Don’t Touch Me’ prove he hasn’t left behind the raw lyricism that has built a strong fanbase that’s earned him the respect he has to date as one of the countries top MCs. Big things await Kyza, with another album coming next year, and nationwide wide tour with live band Focused Few – with members including DJ Nonames, Macy Gray and Plantlife’s backing singer and bassist from Roots Manuva’s band.
