Hailing from Oakland, California, The Souls of Mischief formed in 1991 and is composed of emcees A-Plus, Opio, Phesto, and Tajai. Part of the Hip-Hop collective Hieroglyphics and considered by many as part of the native tongues collective due to their appearance of the cover of A Tribe Called Quest’s ‘Midnight Marauders’.
The roots of the group sprouted early when Tajai began rhyming with future band mate A-Plus at age 8, while both were in elementary school. Tajai and Phesto met later in junior high school and after meeting Opio the group informally formed in high school before making their major-label debut on Jive Records with their well-received album ’93 ’til Infinity’, which in January, 1998, was named one of the Top 100 Rap albums by The Source magazine.

The group stayed with Jive for one more album, 1995’s No Man’s Land. That same year the group officially formed the alternative hip-hop collective Hieroglyphics, with emcees Del tha Funkee Homosapien, Casual, Pep Love, Jaybiz, and producer Domino. The group participated as full members in both Hieroglyphics’ studio albums: 1998’s 3rd Eye Vision, and 2003’s Full Circle.

The group has released two albums on the Hiero’s self-owned independent label, Hieroglyphics Imperium Recordings, 1999’s ‘Focus’, and 2000’s ‘Trilogy: Conflict, Climax, Resolution’ before a long hiatus before most recently releasing 2009’s Montezuma’s Revenge.|

There is little doubt that Souls of Mischief are still one of the best loved groups from the golden age of 90’s Hip-Hop and this is a rare opportunity to see them tear up a London stage so make the most of it.

LIVE PA’s FROM SOME OF THE UK’s FINEST;

BLAK TWANG//
Having negotiated classic albums lost to corporate slapstick and an apathetic UK scene that for a long time couldn’t get its arse in gear, Blak Twang is undoubtedly a cornerstone of UK hip-hop. The boy Rotton is as British as bangers and mash, holding down South London via Birmingham and Manchester with a gong-heavy …mantelpiece, and a collection of air miles best described as ‘mega’, such is his international acclaim. A perennial stage and festival rocker, Twang’s standing stretches back to his revered LPs from the 90s. The ‘lost’ but soon to be re-released Dettwork Southeast – which would evolve into 19 Long Time: Live from the Big Smoke, complete with the same label complications – made Hip-Hop Connection’s top 5 UK hip-hop albums of all time. Quite simply, the man is no nonsense.

KINGS OF THE CITY//
Kings Of The City are of the most exciting and innovative new acts to come from the UK in a long time. They have performed to over 20,000 people in Trafalgar Square, embarked on a 12 date O2 Academy UK tour supporting MAVERICK SABRE, released 3 hit refixes of contemporary records with for SBTV.co.uk and become the first band to record an acoustic Fire In The Booth for CHARLIE SLOTH’s show on BBC 1Xtra who describes them as ‘A fresh new sound for British rap. Pure dopness!’

‘A refreshing mix of raw bars, guitars, and hearts of kings! Definitely ones to watch!’
