CAN’T STOP WON’T STOP + HIDDEN PRESENT…
FRIDAY 19TH APRIL at THE LACEHOUSE NOTTINGHAM
BIG DADDY KANE
A New York M.C. who undisputedly defined the term “lyricist” in the world of hip-hop. Along with the lyrical ingenuity he brought to the genre, he also introduced innovative live performances as well. Kane was the first rapper to ever hold not one but two sold out shows at the world famous Apollo Theater for women only. These lives performances, which consisted of theatrics, choreography and tailored costumes proved that Big Daddy Kane was not only an M.C., he was a full entertainer. Kane revolutionized hip-hop fashion and the way hip-hop shows were performed.
Kane has endured a substantive music career. He has several gold albums, endless music accolades including a Grammy award. He also received a VH1 Hip Hop Honor in 2005. His catalogue of music consists of the LP “Long Live The Kane” that features the hit songs “Ain’t No Half Steppin’” and “Raw.” The LP “It’s A Big Daddy Thing” featured “Smooth Operator” “Warm It Up” and the Teddy Riley produced hit “I Get The Job Done.” The LP “Taste Of Chocolate” features “Hard Being The Kane” and “All Of Me” as well as a duet with the legendary Barry White.

Cappo and Styly Cee (SON RECORDS)
(Cappo) Born and raised in Nottingham, Cappo first entered the world of hip-hop as a grafitti writer, and started rapping at an early age. By 95 he was rapping daily, and was one half of a two man group. No releases, but the experience was enough to boost him to go for self, and he went on to do his first proper live show at Nottingham Carnival, summer ’97. Since then a regular on the Notts scene, and renowned for holding his own against any emcees, local or international: ‘Gotta touch a stage at least once a month’-type stuff. Not one to sit on his mic, Caps has been well busy on the production tip, and his ‘First Knight’ 3 track demo in summer ’98 was soon followed up by his self-produced self-financed 15 track demo album ‘The Cap Tape Volume One’, leading to an approach from SON, a track being featured on Disorda’s UK artist’s showcase ‘Mind The Gap’ series, and a four-star album review in HHC.
Since then he has released his first piece of vinyl, the ‘Cap 3000’ EP (SON 011) in September ’99, appeared on one of the best received tracks (‘That’s The Way It Goes’) on the Lost Island album ‘Forbidden Ground’ (SON 014) and the killer posse track ‘7even’ on the recent Mad Doctor X ‘Project X 2’ EP. He has also released his first full length LP ‘Spaz the World’ on Brighton based label, Zebra Traffic. Latest release ‘Ghengis’ dropped on SON Records in 2010 and has been causing a huge stir up and down the country!
(Styly Cee) Producer/DJ/emcee Styly Cee has been instrumental in providing Son Records with fat hip-hop instrumentals from day one, and is responsible for many of the classic tracks on the label, including production for artists like C-Mone, Cappo, Midnyte as well as being one-half of group Lost Island. He is also the brains behind the notorious comic creation Pitman, producing all the misanthropic miner’s prolific output: a string of classic 7” singles, 2 albums, original tracks for Pitman’s recurring spot on a satirical topical affairs programme on BBC TV (‘The State We’re In’), and shows in front of packed crowds the length and breadth of the country.
‘Brilliant. Its ludicrously funny, but its also pertinent, insightful, satirical and seriously funky. The Streets don’t even come close. Absolute class.’
‘There is genius at work here, albeit of a curious & unhinged kind.’
(quoted from reviews for Pitman’s debut album ‘It Takes A Nation of Tossers’)
Aside from finding acclaim in the mainstream for his first class hip-hop production on a crossover tip, Styly has always kept one Adidas clad foot firmly in the hip-hop underground and has been celebrated as one of the UK’s premier hip-hop producers, with releases licensed for various compilations, videogames (an unreleased track of his featured on the Xbox 360 game ‘Project Gotham Racing 3’) and films (including pioneering underground UK hip-hop film ‘Rage’, and the recent Universal-distributed film ‘Life & Lyrics’). His productions have also graced literally hundreds of hours of MTV programming, including ‘Pimp My Ride’ (both US & UK versions), Room Raiders, Driven & many many more).

J-Simple (Late Night Theatre/Groundwurq)
Fast becoming the hub of progressive English hip-hop, Huddersfield has birthed a number of the country’s finest spitsmiths. From Jehst and Asaviour to 2008’s rap hero Jack Flash, keeping up with such forward thinking talent is never going to be easy. .. Conceived in the Hudd by a parental duo comprising of two musicians, producer and emcee J Simple was destined to lay his roots in creating rich soundscapes. After his father left at an early age, his successful jazz musician step-father came in to the picture. Arriving with an eclectic musical taste, he helped shape the music that was to come from young J. .. A student of every music genre, J Simple absorbs and harnesses all the styles around him. Noting his influences as traveling between Prince to Wu Tang to Talib Kweli and Kanye West, J Simple is undeniably soulful, bias toward the beat-heavy and definitely has an ear for the dope shit. .. Carving his first beats at the age of 11 and writing seriously from the age of 14, it wasn’t long till people started to take notice of his talents. Meandering between various group formations, J gigged around the midlands to hungry crowds, finally settling with the mammoth GROUNDWURQ unit with producer extraordinaire APA-TIGHT and JACK FLASH. .. While touring in Leeds J Simple’s talents were spotted by MC Testament, who approached him to join ‘The Homecut Directive’ consisting of talented jazz musicians and with guest vocals from CORINNE BAILEY RAE and ANDREYA TRIANA. Simple is now primarily focused on his live shows with JACK FLASH to promote ‘THE UNION JACK ALBUM’ which was released in 2008 to critical acclaim. Having supported the likes of TY, TASKFORCE and JEHST with his atomic stage show alongside JACK FLASH, it is time you caught Simple live. His debut solo release entitled ‘Late Night Theatre’ is now available via digital download.http://jsimple.bandcamp.com/album/late-night-theatre
